Course Details

The S-185 Fire Entrapment Avoidance & Safety is an Emergency Services Training course required for anyone who wants to work as a wildfire firefighter. The S185 along with the S100 - Basic Wildfire Suppression and Safety, are the minimum requirements to work on a fireline in British Columbia.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant will demonstrate a basic knowledge of fire entrapment avoidance and fire entrapment survival as well as the safe work procedures to do so.

Course Outline

S-185 training is delivered over a 3-hour classroom training session with evaluation criteria by a written exam. The participant will be able to size up and evaluate potential fire entrapment situations and how to act accordingly to remove himself or herself safely from a potentially risky situation, and deploy the necessary resources using safe and efficient strategies and tactics to prevent loss of life.
